Want to cut down your power bill and go green? A laptop got more portable, with Samsung’s new solar-powered laptop.
With global warming rapidly taking place and the accelerated depletion of non-renewable sources of energy, we must strive to reduce our carbon footprint and Samsung have the answer. Samsung have unveiled their solar-power laptop the ‘Samsung Netbook NC 215S’.
This latest edition of Samsung’s go-green plan ‘Samsung Tomorrow’ offers a jaw-dropping 14.5 hours of stand-by hours, doubling the average battery life of netbooks. Surprisingly, to charge this energy-saving monster, only a maximum solar exposure of two hours is required, as this exposure charges the battery full.
With solar cells and thin film coatings of piezoelectric materials on the face of the Samsung Netbook NC 215S, the 1.3kg laptop is only available in the stylish black, due to the colour’s heat-absorbing ability, in comparison to other colours such as silver, which would generally deflect the sunlight, and fade over time.
According to NTV’s Moses Kemibaro, Kenya is targeted by Samsung as a marketing ground, due to the increasing digital awareness in the country, as exhibited at the Samsung Africa Forum event in Nairobi mid-last year. “the Samsung NC 215S attracted the attention of the public, especially considering the spotty electricity coverage in Africa.”
This netbook etches itself into the record books as being among the most powerful netbooks of modern IT, as it features an Intel Atom dual core processor, and 1 GB RAM, that discards the fear of over-heating, and Microsoft’s latest on-market operating system ‘Windows 7 Starter’.
Priced at Kshs. 33,555/=, the gadget features a 10-inch screen capacitating 1024 x 600 resolution with matte display, and spanning a width equivalent to that of a toddler’s finger, as said by Ved, N. on gadget-teaser.com.
What’s more, the designers of this Samsung model went bizarre, after enabling the mutli-purpose use of the NC 215S’s solar panel to charge MP3s, iPods, phones, and many others, via its numerous 2.0 USB ports, whilst in use, when set to power-saving mode, and even when it is switched off.
This product is bound to be hit, as many Kenyans, and people all over the world, would relish a laptop that could be carried everywhere; no charger, no fighting for power plugs, no fear of sunlight.
If you are indeed going green, the solution is simple. The laptop is priced at Kshs. 33,555/=. Or after seeing the price for the second time, and see this a good deal, then it is time to discard the saying “when a deal is too good, think twice”, because apparently, it is a good deal. The Samsung NC 215S can be purchased at Computer Planet, Bestell Computer, and Ace Computers here in Kenya.
